Two words. とてもすごい(Very
Amazing)! Today, we went to Maymont Park: one of the largest public
Japanese gardens on the east coast. There, we were able to experience the
park first hand by doing community service within the garden itself. Some
students cut bamboo while other students got to wade in the pond, removing the
algae.

Today was a brand new type of adventure for us! We had our first field trip… Maymont Park!
I’ve loved coming here as a child, and I loved it just as much coming with my new friends. We helped to clean the Japanese garden, testing out our new vocabulary as we did so, and bonded through working hard together. And, of course, by the end of it, the garden looked great and the staff were very pleased. It was a joy to get to explore the area together and eat lunch outside at the park. Not to mention, we were treated to Japanese mochi ice cream right afterward: a cold, sweet treat that was perfect for a hot, eventful day out!

After the Japanese gardens, we went to a Japanese restaurant
where we had some traditional Japanese desserts. The dessert consisted of
Mizuyokan (red bean paste), mochi ice cream (rice cake ice cream), and Japanese
crackers. The Strawberry, or Ichigo mochi was my favorite!
