Language

Beginner:
To reinforce our katakana reading ability, Namastil-sensei had us look at Japanese restaurant menus. Now I know how to order a chicken sandwich with a drink. Many of the options available were pretty weird though.

Advanced:
In today’s language class we learned more about Tanabata and sang songs about it. We also learned how to wear a yukata, traditional Japanese clothing worn at festivals. It took us almost three people to get how to wear it! At the end of class we learned three different dances that are performed on Tanabata. They were hard to learn at first but after we mastered the steps the song was easy since everything just repeated. It was a lot of fun but got tiring really fast! I look forward to dancing on Tanabata which will be on July 7th! -Abhishek

Tonight we learned how to wear our yukata for the tanabata festival. A Japanese teacher who teaches in Chesterfield and her daughter helped demonstrate the proper way to wear the yukata and its accessories, along with the traditional bon odori dance. It was an amazing experience, and I look forward to celebrating.
